This route is essentially the same as our always popular 200K brevet route with the only difference being the start/finish location is at the Kwik Trip at the corner of Main and Seminary streets rather than at the Ramada Inn.
The route beings with a rather lengthy but not too steep climb out of Richland Center to get the legs warmed up then a nice run through beautiful farmland on CR-E to WI-60. Although route 60 can be busy (where in Wisconsin terms “busy” means a car every 10-15 minutes) depending on time of day it has a nice shoulder and what traffic there is usually gives a wide berth. You stay on 60 to Blue River where you cross the mighty Wisconsin river then take WI-133 toward Boscobel (the self proclaimed wild turkey hunting capital of the world) where you make a stop at the Kwik Trip as your first control on the route at mile 28.5.
Leaving Boscobel there’s a nice run along the Wisconsin state waterway then a turn onto CR-K then Green River road for a very nice run through the valley followed by a stiffish climb up to US-61 that will take you into Fennimore.
Fennimore at mile 51.7 makes a nice stop for lunch and is an open control so you can either use the Casey’s convenience store or one of several restaurants in town (Subway if you’re in a hurry, Timothy’s cafe if you’re not). With your stomach full you have a nice downhill run leaving Fennimore and about 10 miles for your lunch to settle before you hit the climb up to CR-Q which will take you to the next control at Muscoda at mile 75.
Leaving Muscoda there’s a mostly flat section over to Avoca followed by what is the steepest climb on the route at about mile 83. Then a downhill run to WI-130 followed by a long stretch on CR-C where you’ll pass Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliessen just before turning on WI-23 and again crossing the Wisconsin into Spring Green.
The penultimate control in Spring Green is followed by mostly flat roads through farmland back to Richland Center.
