2018 once again brings some new routes and a couple of first time events. We’ll be putting on our first ever 1000K this year. This ride will capture the full spirit of “self supported long distance cycling” in that it’s a low cost way to get that 1000K done. For more details, see the link below.
We’re also working with Minnesota Randonneurs to put on the Coulee Challenge. We’re very excited about this ride as the route showcases some of the best riding in the Driftless and is for the most part on roads you won’t have seen on other Driftless Randonneurs rides. There’s been a great deal of interest in the ride so make sure you sign up on the interested rider list to stay current on ride happenings. More details at the Coulee Challenge web site.
We’re also working on some other new routes for the 2018 season so some of the routes listed below are place holders for now. Be sure to check back and see what’s in store! Another change for 2018 is RUSA now allows new RUSA certified rides to be added to the calendar throughout the year. We’ll be taking advantage of that to augment the calendar with shorter rides. These will be scheduled with relatively short notice (a couple of weeks) so check back often!
We’re continuing and expanding the ride format we used last year. On ride weekends where multiple distances are offered, the routes will be the same as far as possible so we’ll all be able to ride together for a while before those going on to the longer distance will press onward while those opting for a shorter day will begin the journey toward the finish. This worked well last year when inclement weather made a shorter distance more attractive and on nicer days allowed us to ride as a group for at least the first part of the ride.
With the exception of our 4th annual “Dart Pop weekend” in July and the shorter RUSA events mentioned above, all events and routes are ACP certified so they’ll qualify if you’re pursuing the various ACP and RUSA awards. Unless noted otherwise in the details for a particular ride, all rides start in the rear parking lot of the White House Ramada Inn at 1450 Veterans Drive, Richland Center.
