DESCRIPTION:Note that there’s been a change of start location from Fitchburg to Stoughton but other than the changes needed to remove the segment to the old start location and add the cues to get to/from the start in Stoughton the route is otherwise the same. \nAs noted on the 400K\, we did this route for the first time in 2022 and the weather gods were not at all kind with cold temperatures and pouring rain. Fingers crossed for better weather this year! \nThe ride starts at the Kwik Trip in Stoughton and heads east across the Lower Yahara River Trail boardwalk as we make our way out to Holy Hill through the Loew Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. DESCRIPTION:This is “version 2” of this route and we’ve done this one several times. The principle change we made to create version 2 was a somewhat shortened day one with a consequently longer day 2.  \nThis is a challenging but fun route. It has several long climbs – not “crazy steep” but rather ones where you can pick whatever gear you’re comfortable in and spin your way up if you choose or you can make a harder effort knowing you won’t hit a “wall”.  \nThe route also includes a number of longer sections rolling along on ridge tops or river valleys and features a lot of the memorable scenery we love about riding in the Driftless.  \nThe route is designed to be ridden in 2 days with an intervening overnight in “the Big City” to rest and refuel. Both of the hotel choices (the Ramada or Center Lodge) have refrigerators and microwaves in the room so you can stock up with whatever you want after finishing day one and before heading out for day two. SUMMARY:Off to Elkader 400K
DESCRIPTION:One of our favorite 400K routes. This one takes you through Muscoda then features a beautiful stretch on CR-G over to Fennimore followed by an even nicer section from Fennimore over to Prairie du Chien with a long stretch along the Green River before a couple of challenging climbs on CR-C. We’ll then cross the Mississippi at PdC and you know what that means! Any time you go East or West from the Mississippi your next destination is “up” as you climb away from the river. You’re rewarded with some beautiful views before turning Westward toward Elkader with a nice stop at the control for lunch should you choose a longer break. Then it’s North through Monona (lots of rollers and generally uphill – this stretch can be tough with a North wind!) where a break at the Casey’s is suggested before heading on to the next control at Lansing. \nLeaving Lansing there’s that “cross the Mississippi” thing again with the requisite climb away from the river before heading toward Viroqua. This is a fairly tough stretch\, your RBA has done it in both directions and it’s a toughie both ways! At Viroqua you can either stop at the Kwik Trip or any other place that appeals to you (Culver’s\, Dairy Queen\, Community Co-Op\, etc) as it’s an open control. \nThen we’ll head off to Ontario. There’s a convenience store there but unless you’re pretty quick it’s likely to be closed. You can either stop at the bar for food or there’s a place on your brevet card & cue sheet where you can top up water bottles (it’s an info control). Leaving Ontario\, we’ll head back to Richland Center. \nThe total distance is 255.7 miles with 13\,050 feet of climbing according to ridewithgps. \nThe ridewithgps route is here.\nBrevet card here \nComplete the registration form below. SUMMARY:Wildcat Mountain Wander 300K
DESCRIPTION:This was a new route for 2017 which shares the first few miles with our “Back in Black (River Falls) 400K” route so riders can roll out together. The controls for the first 90 miles are the same and there’s considerable overlap between the routes so riders doing any of the events typically held on this day should get a number of opportunities to see other riders during the first part of the ride. \nThe route has some testing climbs\, especially the long climb up the eponymous Wildcat Mountain\, but nothing too severe. Ridewithgps reports 7115 feet of climb in the 195 mile distance for an average of 36 feet/mile which is generally considered “hilly”. There aren’t any “shift all the way down and grind” sorts of climbs\, mostly “pick your gear and spin” (assuming of course you aren’t riding a 39×25 as your easiest gear!). \nThere are plenty of food opportunities along the route with c-stores and/or restaurants available in Ontario\, Norwalk\, Warrens\, Sparta\, Cashton and LaFarge. This being the small town midwest you can expect everything to fold up at 22:00 so plan your food/water stops accordingly. \nThis is a lovely route on mostly quiet two-lane roads. DESCRIPTION:In the face of continued suffering in war-torn Ukraine\, and under the guidance of the Audax Club Parisien (ACP)\, randonneuring clubs throughout the world are being asked to schedule a 200K or a 300K ride in October and designate it as a Ukraine Support ride. The funds collected from these rides will be used to support the Ukrainian war effort. The results will be homologated to ACP by the Ukrainian Mariupol/Lviv randonneur club\, representing a city that has been especially hard hit by the Russian onslaught. \nTo show our strong support for Ukraine\, RUSA is coordinating with the Mariupol/Lviv club to provide a simple way for US randonneurs to support Ukraine by utilizing our current ride recording structure to make it easy for US riders to participate and show their support. When you register for the ride and select “Support Ukraine” as a payment option in PayPal\, 100% of the proceeds will go to Mariupol Randonneurs. Your results will be collected by RUSA and the Mariupol club will enter your ride with the ACP which will accept these as official rides. The end result is you will get credit for an ACP event in Ukraine and will be doing something to help. DESCRIPTION:Breaking news! \nThere is a bridge out in Sparta! I’ve done a route that detours around it but note that if you need to resupply  it’s roughly 54 miles from the control in Norwalk to Cashton. \nIf you need to resupply\, I recommend you turn right on Hill St (mile 90.3) to where it “T’s” with WI-27/Citizen Soldier Hwy\, make a left where you’ll see lots of food & drink options (Burger King\, Culvers\, McDonald’s and a Kwik Trip) then retrace your steps to rejoin the detour route. DESCRIPTION:This is a new route in 2022 and many thanks to Andy Quandt for his work developing the route! \nThe ride will start and finish in Fitchburg at the Wyndham Gardens hotel. This is quite a hilly route so you’ll want to bring your “climbing legs” or some easy gearing and maybe a bit of both! Although there are some pretty stiff climbs there are also lots of sections where you’re rolling along in a river valley or on a ridge top (but you gotta climb to get there!) so it’s reasonably well balanced. \nLeaving Fitchburg we’ll head over to Mt Horeb then Northward through Cross Plains and then up to Prairie du Sac (AKA “Sauk Prairie”)\, over to Plain then Southward to Spring Green. We’ll then “head to the barn” via Barneveld (and a fairly stiff climb!)\, Blue Mounds before completing the loop to Mt Horeb and finally returning to the start in Fitchburg. \nThis is an ACP approved route of 128.6 miles with 6\,425 feet of climbing so right at 50 feet/mile which is generally considered “hilly”. \nRidewithgps route here: here. \nComplete the registration form below. DESCRIPTION:Another new route for 2022 and thanks to Andy Quandt for his work developing the route! \nThe ride will start at the Wyndham Garden motel in Fitchburg\, head over to Mt Horeb then Northward to Baraboo via Sauk City and a ride on the Lake Wisconsin ferry. \nFrom Baraboo we’ll head South East to Spring Green and Dodgeville then start working our way back to Fitchburg with stops in Hollandale and New Glarus. \nThe route has some climbs that’ll test the legs but is about “average” for riding in the Driftless so that means about 61 feet/mile so you’ll want to make sure you’re up for some climbing. \nThe ACP sanctioned route is just under 191 miles (307K so you’ll get your money’s worth!) with 11\,840 feet of climbing. \nRidewithgps route is here: here \nComplete the registration form below. SUMMARY:Dart Populaire - Rouleur Series
DESCRIPTION:This is the third event in our 2022 Rouleur Series. As before\, we’ll start the Saturday ride a little later to give those coming from afar the ability to drive to the start in the morning. \nWe’ll be doing a Dart Populaire Team Event for this ride. This is a ride with a minimum of 120 Km that must be completed in 8 hours. Briefly\, the rules are as follows: \n\n\n\n\n\nTeams consisting of minimum of 3 and no more than 5 riders.\nMinimum distance of 120 Km.\nA minimum of 25 Km must be ridden in the last 2 hours.  This must be verified by a timed and dated receipt.\nThree team members must finish together in order to receive credit for the ride.\nAny team members not finishing with the rest of the team will not receive credit for the ride.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe complete rules can be found here. \nNote that the Dart Populaire counts as a team event for a RUSA cup! \nHere’s the plan for the day: \n\n\n\n\n\nAssuming there will be a lot of solo riders who are interested in doing this ride\, we’ll form teams on the day of the ride.  The main ground rule is: everybody rides!  So don’t worry if you don’t have a team – come anyway!  We’ll form or reform teams as necessary to make sure that everybody rides!\nAlthough for longer events e.g.\, a flèche\, it’s customary for riders to form their own teams and develop their own route for this event we’re assuming that most people will be unattached and won’t want to do their own route design.  Accordingly\, we’ve developed three routes that meet the rules criteria.\nThe Blue River – Spring Green populaire\nThe Boaz to Boscobel populaire\nThe Plain and Fancy populaire\n\n\n\n\n\nNote that the three routes are within .1 of a mile of each other for distance with the Boaz route having about 1\,000 feet more climbing. \nIt sounds more complicated than it is – the absolutely most important thing is we’ll ride in small groups and HAVE FUN! \nComplete the registration form below. We’re doing a later than normal start to allow those who are coming for the weekend (there’s another event on Sunday) to drive up in the morning.
