We’re doing a later than normal start to allow those who are coming for the weekend (there’s another event on Sunday) to drive up in the morning. SUMMARY:Driftless Dart Rouleur
DESCRIPTION:This is the second event in our 2024 Rouleur Series. We’ll start this ride a little earlier for an early finish to allow everyone to get home. \nWe’ll be doing a Dart Populaire Team Event for this ride. This is a ride with a minimum of 120 Km that must be completed in 8 hours. DESCRIPTION:A new route to kick off the 2025 randonneuring season! A bit more climbing than our traditional season opening route (the Fennimore Frolic) but since we’re getting a later start we should all have gotten in enough early season mileage to get it done. \nThe clockwise route starts in the back parking lot of the Ramada Inn and heads North then East toward Rock Springs and Baraboo. Then we’ll head South toward Spring Green on some new roads before heading toward Muscoda then back to the “big city” to complete the ride. \nHere are the stats: ACP certified\, 200.1 km (no bonus K’s here!)\, 5\,814 feet of climbing (46 feet/mile). \nBreaking news! (Isn’t that redundant?)\nI’ve previewed the route and there was a crew replacing a culvert on the route out of Baraboo. Three possibilities: \n\n\n\n\n\nThey’re done and the original route is good.\nThey’re not done but the construction area is walkable.\nThey’re not done and it’s not walkable.\n\n\n\n\nTo allow for all three\, I’ve created a route with a short detour. I’ll note that the detour includes a rather steep\, windy descent followed by a rather steep\, whiny climb 😉 So I’d recommend loading both the original route and detour route and at least checking out whether you can go through. DESCRIPTION:The longer version of our season opening 200K route. This one is exactly the same through the first 100+ miles to Muscoda then continues on for a bit more distance (and a good bit more climbing!). \nHere are the stats: ACP certified\, 303.4 km\, 8\,346 feet of climbing (44 feet/mile). \nUpdate! \nPart of the route leaving Boscobel is closed due to construction so I’ve put together a detour route. The good news is the detour has a bit less climbing! \nBreaking news! (Isn’t that redundant?)\nI’ve previewed the route and there was a crew replacing a culvert on the route out of Baraboo. DESCRIPTION:The first ever flèche in the Driftless! \nHere’s your opportunity to be a route designer! The flèche is a team event made up of no fewer than 3 but no more than 5 bikes (note that a tandem counts as a single bike) with at least 3 finishers from the team in order to get credit. A brief overview of the rules: \n\n\n\nTeams ride for 24 hours.\nEach team must ride a minimum of 360 km with no more than 2 hours stopped in a single location.\nTeams develop their own route which arrives at the designated finish location no later than 24 hours after the official brevet start.\nA minimum of 25 km must be ridden in the last two hours of the event. DESCRIPTION:This is the second event in our 2025 Rouleur Series. As before\, we’ll start the Sunday ride a little earlier so you can finish in time for an early drive home. \nWe’ll be doing a Dart Populaire Team Event for this ride. This is a ride with a minimum of 120 Km that must be completed in 8 hours. DESCRIPTION:We did this route for the first time in 2025 and the feedback was positive so we’re giving those who missed it last time (including your faithful servant) another chance. A bit more climbing than our traditional season opening route (the Fennimore Frolic) but since we’re getting a later start we should all have gotten in enough early season mileage to get it done. \nThe clockwise route starts in the back parking lot of the Ramada Inn and heads North then East toward Rock Springs and Baraboo. DESCRIPTION:Our usual route to Spring Green is reasonably mellow on the way over but includes a couple of testing climbs on the way back – that one over Hustlers Ridge is a toughie! \nSo I decided to try to put together the flattest route I could that takes you to Spring Green while still using quiet roads and being fun to ride and this is the result. Although it does include the climb on CR-C near Taliesin it’s a small price to pay for getting to enjoy riding on CR-C which is one of the better routes Eastward toward Spring Green. \nFlat you say? Just how flat are we talking about?  \nWell\, this is the Driftless\, not Florida but at 21 feet/mile you’re not gonna get a whole lot flatter in this neck of the woods. Here are the details: \n64.5 miles\, 1\,403 feet of climbing\, ridewithgps route here. \nNote the rather unusual starting point: the Lions Dog Park on Industrial Rd.
