SUMMARY:Wildcat Mountain Wander 300K
DESCRIPTION:This was a new route for 2017 which shares the first few miles with our “Back in Black (River Falls) 400K” route so riders can roll out together. The controls for the first 90 miles are the same and there’s considerable overlap between the routes so riders doing any of the events typically held on this day should get a number of opportunities to see other riders during the first part of the ride. \nThe route has some testing climbs\, especially the long climb up the eponymous Wildcat Mountain\, but nothing too severe. Ridewithgps reports 7115 feet of climb in the 195 mile distance for an average of 36 feet/mile which is generally considered “hilly”. There aren’t any “shift all the way down and grind” sorts of climbs\, mostly “pick your gear and spin” (assuming of course you aren’t riding a 39×25 as your easiest gear!). \nThere are plenty of food opportunities along the route with c-stores and/or restaurants available in Ontario\, Norwalk\, Warrens\, Sparta\, Cashton and LaFarge. This being the small town midwest you can expect everything to fold up at 22:00 so plan your food/water stops accordingly. \nThis is a lovely route on mostly quiet two-lane roads. SUMMARY:Cranberry Country 600K
DESCRIPTION:This is “Version 2” of an event that we’ve held several times. The original route was the classic 400/200K split with considerably more climbing on day 2. Although quite a few riders finished the old version (and quite a few didn’t!) the general feedback was the 400K first day followed by a hard 200K second day was a big ask. \nV2 breaks things up a little differently. The first day is shorter than it was in the original version of the route\, the second day is therefore longer (it’s still a 600K!) but has less climbing (in feet/mile) than the original version. Here’s the brief: \nACP sanctioned\, 373.7 miles\, 14\,015 feet of climbing\, full ridewithgps route here\nDay one route here\nDay two route here \nA few notes about the ride: \nAlthough it appears there’s a long way from the start to the first control at Norwalk (49.8 miles)\, there are a couple of opportunities to refill bottles or refuel: \n\n\n\n\n\nNote the POI at Yuba (19 miles). There’s a water spigot on the side of the community center building.\nThere’s a convenience store (Cenex) in Ontario at 41 miles.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Central Express in Cashton (mile 170) closes at 22:00. Most riders should be able to make it there and they have the usual c-store fare. If you don’t think you’ll be able to get there before they close you can stock up at West Salem (145 miles) but note that the food you take on there is going to need to get you to the day one finish at 223 miles so if in doubt – stock up! \nThere are soda machines (with water) at La Farge (188 miles) so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have singles or change to purchase water/soda from the machine.
