SUMMARY:Baraboo Bound 200K
DESCRIPTION:A new route to kick off the 2025 randonneuring season! A bit more climbing than our traditional season opening route (the Fennimore Frolic) but since we’re getting a later start we should all have gotten in enough early season mileage to get it done. \nThe clockwise route starts in the back parking lot of the Ramada Inn and heads North then East toward Rock Springs and Baraboo. Then we’ll head South toward Spring Green on some new roads before heading toward Muscoda then back to the “big city” to complete the ride. \nHere are the stats: ACP certified\, 200.1 km (no bonus K’s here!)\, 5\,814 feet of climbing (46 feet/mile). \nBreaking news! (Isn’t that redundant?)\nI’ve previewed the route and there was a crew replacing a culvert on the route out of Baraboo. Three possibilities: \n\n\n\n\n\nThey’re done and the original route is good.\nThey’re not done but the construction area is walkable.\nThey’re not done and it’s not walkable.\n\n\n\n\nTo allow for all three\, I’ve created a route with a short detour. I’ll note that the detour includes a rather steep\, windy descent followed by a rather steep\, whiny climb 😉 So I’d recommend loading both the original route and detour route and at least checking out whether you can go through. DESCRIPTION:The longer version of our season opening 200K route. This one is exactly the same through the first 100+ miles to Muscoda then continues on for a bit more distance (and a good bit more climbing!). \nHere are the stats: ACP certified\, 303.4 km\, 8\,346 feet of climbing (44 feet/mile). \nUpdate! \nPart of the route leaving Boscobel is closed due to construction so I’ve put together a detour route. SUMMARY:The Driftless flèche
DESCRIPTION:The first ever flèche in the Driftless! \nHere’s your opportunity to be a route designer! The flèche is a team event made up of no fewer than 3 but no more than 5 bikes (note that a tandem counts as a single bike) with at least 3 finishers from the team in order to get credit. A brief overview of the rules: \n\n\n\nTeams ride for 24 hours.\nEach team must ride a minimum of 360 km with no more than 2 hours stopped in a single location.\nTeams develop their own route which arrives at the designated finish location no later than 24 hours after the official brevet start.\nA minimum of 25 km must be ridden in the last two hours of the event. Teams must present documentation (receipt\, time stamped photo showing the location) as proof they rode at least 25 km in the last two hours.\nComplete rules are here.\n\n\n\nOur finish location is Vintage Brewing\, 600 Water St\, Sauk City. \nHere are a few other details: \n\n\n\nThe recommended hotel is the Cedarberry Inn\, 855 Phillips Blvd\, Sauk City\, WI. Note that the General Store is roughly a 25 minute drive from Sauk City.\nTeams should identify a team captain who will be responsible for providing proof of passage for the team. Each team must develop its own route. Traditionally\, a flèche route is point-to-point but loop routes are also acceptable if desired to simplify logistics. Routes must be submitted to me no later than 30 days prior to the event – no exceptions!\n\n\n\nThe flèche is my favorite randonneuring event – get a few of your friends together and find out why! \nI’ve put together a presentation that covers the rules and offers some tips.
