Baraboo Bound 200K

A new route to kick off the 2025 randonneuring season! A bit more climbing than our traditional season opening route (the Fennimore Frolic) but since we’re getting a later start we should all have gotten in enough early season mileage to get it done.

The clockwise route starts in the back parking lot of the Ramada Inn and heads North then East toward Rock Springs and Baraboo. Then we’ll head South toward Spring Green on some new roads before heading toward Muscoda then back to the “big city” to complete the ride.

Here are the stats: ACP certified, 200.1 km (no bonus K’s here!), 5,814 feet of climbing (46 feet/mile).

Breaking news! (Isn’t that redundant?)
I’ve previewed the route and there was a crew replacing a culvert on the route out of Baraboo. Three possibilities:

• • • They’re done and the original route is good.
    • They’re not done but the construction area is walkable.
    • They’re not done and it’s not walkable.

To allow for all three, I’ve created a route with a short detour. I’ll note that the detour includes a rather steep, windy descent followed by a rather steep, whiny climb 😉 So I’d recommend loading both the original route and detour route and at least checking out whether you can go through. If not, you’ll only have to retrace a very short distance to the detour.

And if you don’t want to (or haven’t) downloaded the detour for the construction, it’s pretty simple: from the construction (assuming it’s not walkable) retrace your route to Fairview Rd, turn left on Fairview, 2 more lefts and you’re back on the route past the construction.
