Nowhere but Norwalk 200k
This is a route that we always enjoy doing. Why? Quiet roads, ample stops for refueling, through the Amish areas of Ontario, Norwalk and Cashton, challenging but not overly brutal climbing mixed in with some long stretches on ridge tops and through river valleys.
This route is identical to the “Back in Black” 400k & “Cranberry Country” 600k routes most of the way out to Norwalk when you’ll split off just after the control. There are ample stops for refueling along the way but the control in Cashton (65.7 miles) is recommended if you’re inclined toward a lunch stop as they do made to order sandwiches and usually have lots of other food choices. If it’s a warm day don’t ignore the water POIs at Yuba (19.2 miles) and Liberty (88.4 miles). The control at Liberty is a tavern and the folks there are nice about filling water bottles so don’t hesitate to stop if you need fluids.
There are 4 longish climbs on the route. Grades aren’t “silly steep” but they do go on for a bit so pick your gear and save your legs. The stretch on CR-D after leaving Cashton is deceptively hilly – doesn’t look that tough on the screen but they always seem hard to me.
Here are the details:
